Plot

In aisle six of the local toy store lives an energetic piggy bank named Koppig. Contrary to his stereotype, Koppig does not like to sit and hold change. He loves to run. When Koppig overhears talk of a triathlon happening in aisle seven, he decides to compete. Unfortunately, the other toys are not too fond of their piggy bank competitor, leading to a recurring speech about what piggy banks are supposed to do. This personified version of the American idiomatic expression gives readers an education in communication and self-assurance. Sigur’s storytelling paired with Fisk’s child-friendly paintings make Two Cents a classic in the making. In this tale of self-motivation, Koppig learns that not all “two cents” are worth the weight.

Review

“Nicole offers a wonderful tale to promote children’s self-worth and faith in their own abilities, even when others put their two cents in to discourage them. It is wonderfully written for young minds (and adults, too) and is colorfully illustrated by Manuela Fisk to enhance the story of Koppig, the piggy bank that wouldn’t give up. Two Cents offers an important life lesson for all and as a former teacher, I highly recommend it as an addition to an home school or library.” – Nona O’Connell, Former Teacher and Small Business Owner
